      U U While investigating reports of unlawful weapons trafficking,   U U
      U U peacekeeping forces encountered an unclassified carnivorous    U U
      U U species occupying a small village in Northern Africa. These    U U
      U U rabid creatures were easily provoked and resistant to          U U
      U U conventional attack. Eight specimens were encountered in the   U U
      U U region now referred to as "Ground:ALPHA"... Only four were     U U
      U U successfully contained for study. Victims of the attack were   U U
      U U quarantined at a research facility nearby. These victims       U U
      U U displayed signs of internal liquefaction and accelerated       U U
      U U necrosis, similar to symptoms of other flesh-eating viruses    U U
      U U native to that region.                                         U U

      U U But it wasn't a viral outbreak. It was a parasitic             U U
      U U infestation. A previously unidentified species of hook worm    U U
      U U was found beneath the skin of the Ground: ALPHA specimens.     U U
      U U These parasites, we call them "Alpha-worms", laid dozens of    U U
      U U eggs inside their hosts, which in turn produced numerous       U U
      U U larvae. These larvae penetrated the bloodstream and triggered  U U
      U U a variety of genetic failures. However, unlike most genetic    U U
      U U failures, these symptoms were not fatal. Instead, infested     U U
      U U victims were larger, stronger  and driven by hunger. Using the U U
      U U research gained from the Ground: ALPHA specimens, a team of    U U
      U U some special individuals were assembled. Minor outbreaks       U U
      U U occurred over the next few years, but elite squad quickly put  U U
      U U them down. Which brings us to the current situation in         U U
